Mildred Fish-Harnack was an American historian and anti-fascist executed by the Nazi government on this day in 1943.

Together with her husband, Fish-Harnack brought together a discussion circle which debated political perspectives on the time after the Nazis' expected downfall. From these meetings arose what the Gestapo called the "Red Orchestra" resistance group. Beginning in 1940, the group was in contact with Soviet agents, trying to thwart the forthcoming German attack upon the Soviet Union. Fish-Harnack even sent the Soviets information about the forthcoming Operation Barbarossa.

On September 7th, Arvid Harnack and Mildred Fish-Harnack were arrested while on a weekend outing. She was executed on this day in 1943 by beheading. Her last words were purported to have been: "Ich habe Deutschland auch so geliebt" ("I loved Germany so much as well"). She is the only member of the Red Orchestra whose burial site is known, as well as the only American woman executed on the orders of Adolf Hitler.

Goddamn I'm glad I live in a fairly leftist enclave here. The town may suck but the people in general are actually pretty on the ball

If you can afford it, rent has skyrocketed. I'm pretty damn sure I've already posted my city anyway, it's Halifax. There isn't really anything anyone can realistically do to me through doxxing so I'm not really too concerned there.

We have a cool DIY space with a library, a really really really kickass actual library and there are a lot of community garden projects. It's a college town to some extent with a pretty good generally leftist community, small enough that everyone at least knows pretty much everyone by name but big enough that it's not you and your friends plotting in a basement

It's pretty much all anarchists that are everything ML's criticize anarchists for but yknow, it gets some homeless people fed and in some degree of shelter better than a tent. There's a free food fridge but you need to either have a key to get into the building where it is or come in during Open Hours where there could be a workshop on the importance of homemade strapons in subverting the sex toy industry or whatever, so basically no one that needs it wants to go use it. Same with cooked food stuff, it's Food Against Fascism where people can get a meal but under the condition they sit through a meeting about anti fascist stuff in town, which the average poor guy who wants a meal really doesn't wanna bother sitting through.
