Hi Comrades, The Red Review released two back-to-back episodes on the anti-mandate convoy. The first episode (at 80 minutes) is a deconstruction of the anti-mandate movement — its class nature, its leadership, what fuels it, media culpability, eugenicist base, tacit police support, and who ought to confront it.

The second episode (40 minutes) is more informal and features two comrades speaking about what the anti-mandate convoy looked, sounded, and felt like in Vancouver and Toronto. This episode includes audio recordings from demonstrations and counter-demonstrations, covert recordings of conversation with overwhelmed police officers, and unionists talking about the need for mass labour mobilization.

Finished listening to the shorter ep. I 100% agree with the point of needing to organise as a community against the anti-vaxxers/maskers etc. we cannot depend on the police which is what the Libs seem to want. It’s absolutely necessary and required if we are to have organisation that has actual power in the coming decade.

Definitely check out the longer episode, where we dive deeper into the failures of the police and the need for mass mobilization. Unfortunately, in our community organizing, we both must confront the police and the labour mis-leaders who cower away from class struggle.

For sure. Will give it a listen either today or tomorrow.

I'm wondering if you plan on doing an episode on the recent expansion of police budget in Vancouver. I know Socialist Action supports the Socialist Caucus in the NDP, so was interested in your opinion on the successes and failures of such tactics. BC has an NDP gov. but it's....pretty bad.

        Thanks!

We spent a good chunk of time talking about police budgets in this prior episode: https://theredreview.buzzsprout.com/1795649/9305214-episode-5-september-2021-in-review-and-election-recap

And the NDP Socialist Caucus absolutely opposes John Horgan on numerous fronts, including recording-breaking investments in fossil fuel extraction, continued violation of Indigenous self-determination, and poor pandemic response (virtually indistinguishable from other provinces). At the recent BCNDP convention, the NDP Socialist Caucus and Courage teamed up to call for a leadership review, advance socialist resolutions, and run openly socialist and revolutionary candidates. We know there is no revolutionary future in the NDP but as a mass labour party, we refuse to ignore the opportunity to spread and grow a revolutionary movement in the Canadian state.
