it's really funny to me that there's one group of christians spending a shit load of money on PR campaigns instead of the poor just for the christians they're trying to say they're not like to disown them, and go "nuh uh, we're christians and we stand by all the fascist shit"

American Jesus is a very real phenomenon.

These people think Jesus is America, in that he's the force behind the genocidal army of the USA and it's allies, the fuel of the alt right and the Republican party, the motive and the conscience of the murderer due to how evangelicals think forgiveness of sin works, but still somehow kind hearted and charitable despite all this. Just like how they perceive the US as the ultimate force of good in the world despite all the things the US has done. Jesus is merely a state symbol, a founding farther of the USA alongside George Washington, if not the idea of America itself.

Anything that portrays Jesus outside of this image is considered incorrect and satanic.

It's actually quite sad how religion has been reduced to this in the USA and in the evangelical movement

i tracked down the commercial, and i think it's pretty inoffensive across the board. though i get how people who want christianity to be the cudgel they use to punish out-groups wouldn't like it.

the weirdest part about it, aesthetically, was playing a cover of the INXS ballad originally written and performed by a guy that died from autoerotic asphyxiation.

      died from autoerotic asphyxiation

I was wondering if this would count as suicide from a theological perspective, my conclusion was it wouldn't.

I legitimately don’t even understand what the “American Christian™®©” even remotely believe anymore. It’s been on the decline for a while, I but can’t even name what they pretend to believe in anymore. Everything that is “woke” has like 99.99% chance Jesus would be cool with. Especially “love your neighbor as yourself.”(Mark 12:31), which is pretty basic and not the complex (and also rad, love yourself and love everyone). He’s saying “be cool.”, and that’s “woke” now.

I am genuinely curious what they claim their “faith” means. Is there any principles, virtue, morals they would say they believe with their whole chest? What’s even is the “American Church ⛪️ “, is just pure raw prosperity gospel? Is Jesus my CEO now?

Christianity in the US is just a cultural signifier that the person is right wing. It's 100% just aesthetics and vibes. At most they'll cherry pick some horrible section from the old testament to justify their views.

American Christianity is white Jesus being born from a virgin teenager from East Palestine, Ohio. He supported small business owners and did a citizen’s arrest on a lazy bum who smashed their tables out of jealously (likely a socialist). He was executed by illegal immigrants and Jews, but before he died, he prayed to The Father to kill two shoplifters to show how serious humanity’s sins are.

      • Material wealth is good

      • the voice in my head is god so every thought i have is divinely inspired

      • all my hatreds and petty bigotry are divinely mandated

      • i am a good person

      • anyone who is different from me is not only a bad person but literally a satan worshipper

There's no meaningful theology, no real dogma. Just tens of millions of people working on pure libidinal id they thing is gods will, with all the horror that comes with that.
