We haven’t coordinated anything with the mods from there and they are squarely focusing on getting people into the lifeboat over at https://lemmygrad.ml/c/GenZedong. However, you are more than welcome to hang around. A lot of us have accounts for Lemmy as well as Hexbear since Hexbear does not yet federate with Lemmy (although that project is under way).

An importance difference in site cultures to keep in mind is that we don’t allow sectarianism. If you want to dunk on anarchists, you need to take that elsewhere (or just refrain since anarchists are comrades too). If you want to dunk on liberals, !the_dunk_tank@hexbear.net is full of all the cringy Twitter screenshots your heart could ever desire. We also have !memes@hexbear.net, !chapotraphouse@hexbear.net, and !sino@hexbear.net, which should have some overlap with /r/GZD. Our !genzedong@hexbear.net comm was also recently unlocked by one of your moderators.

Happy lurking; Furious posting,

hexbear we try to be anti-sectarian (although imo leans very ML) while lemmygrad is more ML specific

pretty much dunking on anarchists is looked down upon here, while that stuff is okay over on lemmygrad

thank you for a detailed answer! I like the lack of shitflinging here so I will probably not explore lemmygrad

I'm glad you like it here! We worked through some of the worst struggle sessions early on and at this point have a very supportive community. The lack of shitslinging is nice, especially after coming from a place like reddit.

It took me months to unlearn the tension of always waiting for someone to pick an argument

I never posted on reddit for this reason, until I found the CTH subreddit. Then I just exclusively posted there

Unfortunately, the person you're responding to is someone here to pick old dumb fights.

To answer your question, I would say that this place is much less transphobic than the rest of the internet end doesn't tolerate undermining of our trans comrades, which is a very good thing. Happy to elaborate if you want to know more!

it did seem like there was a bit of bitterness there. I've been around for a few months, mainly in the dunk tank, and it seems like the staff here are a lot more committed to making me feel safe and supported here than I've seen basically anywhere else. what was the whole book club thing about?

Here’s what I remember from when I asked about this:

              • Most of the site chose to read “Trans Liberation”by Leslie Feinberg.

              • There was a transphobe who tried to concern troll that reading was ableist

              • so users here worked together and recorded the entire book as an audiobook because one didn’t exist yet anyway and it was a cool project.

              • then the dude kept showing up in every book club thread still complaining that there were book clubs at all and pronoun tags existing was oppressive

              • then he started sexually harassing individual trans people

              • then he got banned

Loser has kept coming back and making concern troll accounts. Dude has :reddit-logo: energy and thinks he’s on a righteous crusade lol

To address some transphobia issues, folks on this site decided to do some educational efforts like telling people to read a book, e.g. Leslie Feinberg's Trans Liberation: Beyond Pink or Blue. For some libs, this triggered a fighting response when they could have just shut the fuck up, lol.

Like imagine someone saying a local org has a racism problem so some POC come together and say, "hey we did some work and will do some readings of this book with anyone interested, it'll help us all understand what's happening". Now think of the person saying, "I dunno, sounds divisive". That's the kind of thing that got warnings/bans, just like they'd get piled on in a good irl organizing space.

that makes more sense. thank you for explaining in detail, I figured they were being intentionally obtuse so I didn't wanna speak on anything before someone else weighed in. also lol at them getting banned

Yeah this place got cooler when it adopted a no-tolerance policy on casual transphobia. Happy I could be helpful!
