Mao Zedong will henceforth be called Mao Tse-Tsung. Guang Dong will be Kwantung and the controversial Xinjiang will once again be called Siangkang.

We hope that this will make China sound scarier and make people more supportive of our efforts to do regime change.

Does Wade Giles sound like any kind of dialect at all? Like I know it's completely wrong compared to Mandarin but what about Cantonese and others?

Wade Giles was designed to be a transliteration system for all Sinitic dialects, not just mandarin (which is why you only see, eg, t and t’, but not d, a voiced consonant only found in other dialects such as Shanghainese). It’s a cool idea for linguists I guess, but really impractical, since most people would never need to transliterate words from two dialects at the same time.
