Interesting. Reminds me of some book I read that was an alt history where it was middle eastern countries that were the dominant world powers who did industrialization and colonialism. Don't remember anything else but the premise at all. Probably a good thing because there's a pretty good chance of the book having some shit take about refugees or 9/11 or whatever was in the public discourse when it was written.
