Yeah, that was a stupid time.

Glad users in more recent times are mature enough to just quietly go elsewhere instead of trying to make an unnecessary and annoying spectacle out of it.

I left during the vegan wars. I didn't make a big dramatic post about it, I was just really over the incessant drama. The site also had productive drama. The great pronoun wars needed to be fought.

I managed to get banned and then enough people got mad about it that I was unbanned

I think a lot of it was a product of well intentioned initial moderation decisions. Hexbear V1 had too much transparency.

The user union comm seemed like a good idea, but letting users or their friends debate bannings with the mods invited the mods to get into public arguments with the users, which was just a recipe for hurt feelings on all sides. That lead to certain users having personal vendettas against individual mods and waging wars against them, and that lead to the mods getting fed up, which led to them being shitty to the users, and the cycle went on and on leading to an endless cycle of dumb internet bullshit.

Things run much more smoothly now that the mods just quietly disappear users accounts in the night, like the stasi.

maybe the mods could just be reasonable fucking human beings instead of

the mods getting fed up, which led to them being shitty to the users

The war allowed the authoritarian tankie mods banning my right to be weird and annoying online and make a big spectacle out of me not looking at an internet forum and did :1984:
