definitely not for me personally, but cool that theyre making these sorts of innovations with plant-based meats for those who are into them, and gets rid of the excuse of waiting for lab meat (and lets be honest, lab meat is techbro bullshit thats never gonna happen on any actual scale)
id be a bit worried its like beyond and impossible though, where they taste-test it against actual animal meat, do you know if it is?
Seems like it would just be easier to flat out say "Im almost exclusively vegan but I do sometimes eat meat" than this self-aware "Oh I know this rationalization is questionable hohohoho" stuff.
Anyone who would get annoyed by it are already annoyed by the act itself I imagine.
what i took it to mean is that he taste tests his plant-based steaks against actual cow steaks for the purposes of 'perfecting' the taste
so its a more important point about the product itself, because that is exactly what beyond burgers do, and why theres a lot of controversy around them and why a lot of people dont consider beyond to be vegan (i tend to agree)
theyre too busy tearing each other apart right now with their own struggle session that is simultaneously about whether it is funny for mods to make people write poems about sexual assault to get unbanned and also about whether asking people not to compare animal agriculture to the holocaust makes you a vegetarian and a nazi
Oh is he otherwise good? I remember reading that passage early on (I think it might be in the first chapter of one of his books?) and I never looked at him again, just sounded like a chauvinist chud.
The only other thing I've read by him is the quote they keep at the top of the Kissinger Death Tontine site, which is admittedly based, but also kind of lib.
All these hot vegan substitute companies are like that, I’m especially annoyed at Just, they run a cringe marketing campaign where they essentially say “we don’t care about veganism, buy our stuff cause it tastes good” and they used bacon to promote just eggs when that came out. Like… eat a salad folks. Today I ate spicy red lentil soup and a fennel orange salad and I would never trade that for your shitty soy burger that smells like cat food.

Man, the feds really did a number on those guys.
I think that one Bourdain quote at the beginning is the only time he was ever wrong.

He's more this than chud
Yeah, agreed. Based but kind of lib is a good summary of the dude, but it's so much better that he's that than a chud.

Lab meat is already happening at scale in china :some-controversy: lab chicken is like 75% more than actual chicken in price
