Oof. $900 is pretty steep for a college kid. That’s like 90% of one class lol. I’m hoping it’s a good investment though given the circumstances, although my other hobbies are also expensive and not exactly fruitful... but this should be more than a hobby. I’m close to pulling the trigger, but I’m gonna let this soak in for a bit more before finalizing everything.

M&P 2.0 compact - $320 + $15 FFL + $15 NICS

1000 rd Belom ammo (target, no SD) - $300 + shipping (idk yet, probably some bullshit so expect $15+)

Mechanical safe - $170

Dlead wipes and soap (paranoid about lead poisoning) - $60

Carry case - $35?

Firearm classes - $40-130 :marx-joker:

I know it’s usually best to buy ammo in bulk, but I feel like as a beginner I should save some money and buy less, and also buy JHP rounds even though I won’t be John Wicking around my house for a while. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I won’t be broke with all this, but it’s still painful to see $900 disappear in a single day lol

Honestly, what do you actually want out of a gun safe? One that's sufficient for legally owning a firearm in a state that requires a gun safe? One that keeps kids and animals away from the firearm? One that you can quickly access the firearm from in case of a home invasion? One that will keep a skilled and determined person from stealing your firearm?

I have the Fort Knox and am happy with it. Simplex lock is tougher to hack and it's built like a tank. But easily $250+. You're right to not want to skimp on a safe.
