Haven't had an account since I got permanently banned after like a thousand suspensions for upvoting CTH stuff. Was content to just scroll /r/all anonymously on a third party app as part of my daily digital self harm regimen.

That app has been slow as fuck, I assumed they're throttling now to force people to their dumpster heap of an app and to login with an account they can better sell ads to. Didn't think it could be that bad so I made a new account and got their damn app.

Holy fuck, it's so bad. I started getting email digests I never asked for, then push notifications after I unsubscribed from those. It's horrifically cluttered and strangled by add-on bullshit their designers are desperately trying to justify their make-work jobs with: avatars, super-up-doots and whatever. Most the videos don't actually work - apparently that wasn't just a glitch of the third party app I've been using. This is really what they want to IPO? What an awful experience. The market really demands any sort of internet "commons" be degraded into the most ugly and docile skinner box possible.

Will it get me to stop? Probably not.

But when you show people a list of things on a single page that downloads and displays all at once, they don't click on as many ads.

Think of the poor sad :reddit-logo: owners

Is hacker news the last link aggregator that hasn't desperately tried to stop being a decent link aggregator? Too bad it's full of the worst fucking ghouls on the internet

Maybe? Even the search engines are outclassed by their past versions. Web 1.0 was truly the pinnacle.
