Random crits in TF2 are so weird. There really isn't much of a point in randomness in games that aren't using it for awful casino type stuff, other than to add "texture" to gameplay. But that's usually best for non-mechanical things like sound effects or visual appearance, not what happens when you do stuff. The real world isn't actually random so video games should keep it to a minimum too.
