What do you like to draw? I had an idea but not sure if it would be your jam.

There's a bipedal sapient protagonist in my next planned book that I have mostly figured out but haven't actually illustrated, let alone commissioned anyone to illustrate yet.

His back, shoulders, and the solid portions of his extremities have slicked-back poisonous quills that can sprout out and extend as an instinctual reaction to danger. His tail is long, prehensile, and has a weighted end that serves as a counterbalance when he sometimes runs on his fours, and is tipped with a scorpion-like stinger. His features beneath that are somewhere between mammalian and reptilian: armored hide but with bristly fur around the edges of his quill patches. He has two pairs of eyes with a sleek elongated skull housing them, and his largest quills are often tied together a bit like dreadlocks.

Clothing would be utilitarian and minimal, more for protecting his softer underside and for carrying gear.

A bit like his tail, he wields a chain-segmented motorized bladed weapon, often coiled around his forearm.

I wouldn't ask you to move heaven and earth but if you wanted something to draw it may well help me refine and finalize the design for the species. The main character of that story will be from a species that has a reputation of being living weapons and born hunters. There will be nuance to the specific character, of course, but some stereotypes come from somewhere.

nah earth is already moving. No need to do that but no im willing to give it a shot. Could i be provided with a rough sketch of the idea to keep it close to the original ? having a written description means its hard to get it right. Unless you dont mind then i dont as well.

That's the thing: I don't yet have an illustration of the character at all, just a mental image and I haven't drawn anything at all in decades. I used to do that but I went into writing and sort of forgot how to draw. :monke-beepboop:

I’d say even with the reptilian/scorpion aspects, the movement signature would likely be catlike, at least when on near-fours or when sneaking or stalking. Bipedal plus, if you get me.

Oh, I just mean the body language, even of a still image. Animation would be way too much to ask for.

I'm flattered, but only do what would be fun for you! If anything'd animate it'd likely be the tail, sort of curling and coiling, maybe the bristles poofing out and retracting while anticipating a leap. Likely black coloration, with highly reflective pairs of eyes.

He's too dignified and dare I say "civilized" to rawr. He would only go to fours and do the pre-pounce crouch because that might mean life or death during a hunt.

The spines'd be flexible enough to tie together and bundle, sort of like a porcupine. Black coloration all over, but maybe some glossiness on the quills, sort of distracting sight in motion to startle and confuse prey.

Rawr was mostly joke but yeah i can end up with some rough animation. maybe something that would take me 30 mins to two hours max

A still image may still be a good idea first, if only because if for some reason the concept I wrote out and what you drew were drastically different I'd feel bad to see what I didn't intend to be set in motion. It'd feel like an unwanted child! :deeper-sadness:

ofc i cant animate something i have no concept for. even if you did not ask for it unwanted children are loved or should be anyways (kinda curious how small the reply boxs can get.)

Your Aedil illustration was especially evocative to me. Something about the color choices has this dangerous/beautiful synthesis and it's great.

If you're still looking for prompts, I'd love to see a drawing of some sunfish! Enneacanthus is my favorite genus, but the Lepomis species are beautiful, too.

If you'd rather draw people, I'd love it if you could draw Lenin going fishing. Maybe give him one of those "BORN TO FISH, FORCED TO SELL MY LABOR" type t-shirts.

Edit: I just looked at your link and damn, I actually think you should go for a pumpkinseed sunfish. I think it would be a really fun exercise in color for someone with your style.
