"You don't have an insta? Not even a Facebook account? What are you hiding, lol?"

Bruh I'm not hiding anything I just don't like baring my asshole to the world.

out of my immediate social network (school friends, work friends, family, common interest pals), i am absolutely the one with the most technical literacy and aptitude (not bragging, i just used to work in that shitty sector). i do haxbare, some small discord friend groups, and a direct messaging app. no facebook, no tiktok, no insta, no twitter. i let people assume i have them until someone specifically asks, and i just say sorry, i'm not on the one they're asking about. semi-recently, in a mixed group, some woman was like, "wait, you're not on facebook, linkedin, or twitter, or any of them?" and i said, "i know, right. one might say i barely exist at all." which got some cheap laughs. i don't want to proselytize. seems like everybody knows these apps suck anyway.

few people ask why not, though i can tell it bothers them and makes me seem "eccentric". if anyone presses i just say, "repeated peer-reviewed studies show using those programs makes people depressed and anxious, and i don't want that." that usually kills any further interrogation.

It's weird how basic people want to radiate quirkiness in social media approved ways but actual eccentricity is bad. :wojak-nooo:
