The dead internet theory is so bleak, especially when it's tied to the biggest sociopaths in Silicon Valley cashing out on the latest cyber tulip. Everything is being hollowed out at the same time and the only authentic interactions left on a website like reddit are despite reddit, with people who are either about to abandon reddit or who are poisoned by it. Even if they give an authentically typed answer, they googled it and found a reddit result posted by a crypto bot farming posts from 2011 where someone lied for points. They watched a youtube video where an artificial voice told them the Top 10 Facts About China, itself sourced from a reddit thread posted by a bot.

Lemmy's like a hard reset button and will need to be neo-luddite to survive what's coming once AI autocannibalises for another generation. Any kind of chat bot integration on here will poison the fediverse until it's indistinguishable from the legacy websites we're leaving. It's not even a question of whether or not you want to be interacting with humans, but interacting with something that's replying to you from the present year instead of the pre-2022 datasets they'll have to be trained on.
