As a Japanese-American who has long given up hope on Japanese politics, I'm fucking desperately hoping otherwise right now.
I hope the goverment doesn't use this as an excuse to crackdown on "radicals". Which usually means arresting and banning leftist parties and organizations.

The shooter has been ID'd (Buy the media so who fucking knows) as a former Japan Maritime Self Defense force guy. I haven't seen any details beyond that and his name. so who knows what the motive is.
