Hello! I am an egyptian from Alexandria and i want to provide some insight on the terrible situation with the beaches.

The above example is the most egregious example of the exploitation of public spaces however it is just the tip of the iceberg

Over the last 6 years the concept of a public coastline has been gradually and quietly abandoned in favor of selling the land and building cafes and restaurants

The coastline of Alexanderia is gradually being privatized there are still public beaches but they are poor quality and are poorly maintained

The majority of the coastline is sold to Cafes with exorbitant prices or occupied by hotels built directly on the sand

And it is not just Alexanderia it is the entire coastline of the north coast

There is basically no such thing as a public decent beach The shitty beaches are ledt for the poor And the coast line is occupied by resort villages and hotels There is even a situation in which the big urban projects eg marina resort and hacienda resort are siphoning large amounta of sand from surrounding beaches which is causing an ecological disaster

Egypt is the leading example of why neoliberaliasm is a complete an utter failure because all these measures are brought on by a government that has taken so much loans than we need to take more loans to pay off the interest on the previous loans.
