I have a pretty good handle on the history of Western philosophy, at least for someone who never formally studied it, but I know next to nothing about Eastern philosophy, which makes me feel like I have no context or useful background when I'm reading Mao. I feel like it would be helpful to at least have a primer on the key thinkers in the history of Chinese philosophy so I could have some understanding of what Mao was reacting to and what ideas would have been influential in his audience before he began writing. Does such a book exist in English?
Death to America
This is sort of the classic of the history of Chinese philosophy written in Chiba. I never read it, but people around me were reading it in high school in the 2000s and it’s still being read today.
Chiba
lol until I figured out this was a typo I was very confused and wondering if Chiba University was into Chinese history
Lol when is autocorrect when you need them
but apparently the philosophy major at Chiba university does mention Chinese philosophy as a direction of focus
