Olive oil is a liquid fat obtained from olives (the fruit of Olea europaea; family Oleaceae), a traditional tree crop of the Mediterranean Basin, produced by pressing whole olives and extracting the oil. It is commonly used in cooking: for frying foods or as a salad dressing. It can be found in some cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, soaps, and fuels for traditional oil lamps. It also has additional uses in some religions. The olive is one of three core food plants in Mediterranean cuisine; the other two are wheat and grapes.

Spain accounts for almost half of global olive oil production; other major producers are Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, Greece, Morocco and Turkey. Per capita consumption is highest in Greece, followed by Italy and Spain. Olive oil has long been a common ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine, including ancient Greek and Roman cuisine.

In countries that adhere to the standards of the International Olive Council :

Extra virgin olive oil is the highest grade of virgin olive oil derived by cold mechanical extraction without use of solvents or refining methods. It contains no more than 0.8% free acidity, and is judged to have a superior taste, having some fruitiness and no defined sensory defects.

Virgin olive oil is a lesser grade of virgin oil, with free acidity of up to 2.0%, and is judged to have a good taste, but may include some sensory defects.

Refined olive oil is virgin oil that has been refined using charcoal and other chemical and physical filters, methods which do not alter the glyceridic structure. It has a free acidity, expressed as oleic acid, of not more than 0.3 grams per 100 grams (0.3%) . Oils labeled as Pure olive oil or Olive oil are primarily refined olive oil, with a small addition of virgin for taste.

Olive pomace oil is refined pomace olive oil, often blended with some virgin oil. It is fit for consumption, but may not be described simply as olive oil. It also has a high smoke point, and thus is widely used in restaurants as well as home cooking in some countries.

In the summer of 1941 Italians and Italian Americans interned in Fort Missoula Montana were said to have rioted when officials switched their provided cooking fat from olive oil to beef suet (rightly so)

I bought a strait razor a year or two ago but I have no fucking clue how to use it. Really, I just keep it on hand in case I want to CW myself the old fashioned way. Since I bought it, I have actually grown quite a beard, in part because I have no idea how to use it. Having a beard helps me push away the constant dysphoria that I'm actually enby (no joke, I struggle with that). But being bearded bothers me more so because it impedes my N95 mask when I actually am around other humans irl like going to the grocery store at 11pm on Sundays. I didn't know wet shaving was a hobby. Ok tbh I don't know what wet shaving even is, but I'm assuming it's shaving with enough water that your shave area is wet.

So what shaving cream and post shave balm do you recommend? I use Gillette shaving cream and a Gillette five blade and I hack my throat to pieces every time bc my hair grows in circles on my throat

Personally I have been using a cheap DE razor and blades + good old barbasol for years now. Multi blade cartridge razors tend to irritate my skin and give me ingrown hairs though I have never used a particularly nice one before. Might just be a preference at this point over something that mag work better but since I got it all under control I might as well keep going with the way it is.

      Any bald comrades here?

I have a basic safety razor for the face and sideburns, and I also generally use on my temples (I wear glasses).

I bought a palm shaver for the rest of the head, and it works OK, but I just wish there were a better way. I like the way the safety razor shaves, but I once had a bad angle on the curve of my scalp and shaved a 1in chunk out of my head. Incredibly bloody and shitty time. I now make sure not to go behind the ears with the safety razor.

I'm a transfem and I do a lot of shaving and multiblades have never worked for me. The extra surface area makes it difficult to shave around areas with a lot of contours, and the extra blades give more places to get caught on, especially with areas with a lot of contours or inconsistent grain direction, and it also causes more irritation, especially if you miss a hair and have to go back over. I primarily use electric but sometimes break out a DE, but I won't touch multiblades. They just don't make sense to me, the only places the extra surface area helps are places that are already smooth and easy to shave, like calves and cheeks. And even then I'd rather that extra surface area be something that's smooth and easy on the skin, rather than additional blades.

:disgost: they’re the only kind that doesn’t give me irritation :vivian-shrug:
