Eduardo Galeano, born on this day in 1940, was a Uruguayan journalist and author known for, among other texts, his work "Open Veins of Latin America", which the editors of Monthly Review Press called "perhaps the finest description of the primary accumulation of capital since Marx".

Galeano began his career as a political cartoonist and journalist - at fourteen, he was contributing political cartoons to the socialist newspaper "El Sol". At 20, he was the managing director of "Marcha", a storied weekly in Uruguay.

Some of his high profile work as a journalist includes an interview with Juan Perón, a laudatory profile of Che Guevara, and a portrait of Pu Yi, the last emperor of China, who had just completed his Maoist re-education in a nondescript building on the outskirts of Beijing.

Galeano is perhaps best known for his book "Open Veins of Latin America", which details how, through five centuries of plunder by European conquistadors and American corporations, the region's abundant natural resources had been extracted to enrich a few local elites and many foreign interests.

The editors of Monthly Review Press, which published the U.S. edition, described the book as "perhaps the finest description of the primary accumulation of capital since Marx." President Hugo Chávez gave a Spanish-language copy of Open Veins to President Barack Obama on his first diplomatic visit to the region.

"The human murder by poverty in Latin America is secret: every year, without making a sound, three Hiroshima bombs explode over communities that have become accustomed to suffering with clenched teeth."

Hey everyone, I might've asked this before but is weight gain from starting E very common? I'm very obsessive with this type of thing and have a terrible view of my own body so I'm wondering.

A big portion of calories that would go to muscle growth go toward fat deposition instead. It's not really a bad thing because, if your E dose is correct, that fat is going to go into your butt/legs and boobs. It smooths out all the rough edges so you have a softer look, esp in your face. If you pay attention to your appetite, you might also notice you can feel full with smaller portions so it balances out. Just don't neglect yourself and you'll be fine, the fat is going to help you pass (if that worries you).

If I'm in the right lighting I can still see my ribs, but uh...how do I say this politely...I get a lot of comments on my butt. And I'm a lazy pos who doesn't exercise outside of work. Tbh, the biggest change is that I get tired faster from moving heavy stuff cause I got little noodle arms now.

Thanks, how long did it take for these changes to occur if I might ask?

Uhhhhh, it's really subtle so it's hard to say exact times. I think after ~5yrs I stopped having growth spurts. Mental changes started presenting on Day 1. Subtle face/body shape changes started becoming noticeable around 4-5 months. Old pants stopped fitting around 1-2 years, which is also when strangers would get confused about how to refer to me. A lot of it after that was getting more confident and learning to dress better. If I can keep my voice pitch consistent, people just assume I'm a cis lady now. I've even been asked if I'm someone's mom before, lol.
