I’ve constantly heard talk about how the internet advertising industry is a huge bubble but it’s always just been rumor.

I've never understood how advertising makes money or is profitable. I assume it's either some kind of money laundering scheme, or else there's some kind of capitalist religious brainworms going on that compels them to do it.
