On this day in 2019, protests and riots began throughout Chile in response to a raise in the Santiago Metro's subway fare, the increased cost of living, privatization and inequality prevalent in the country.

The protests have been called the "worst civil unrest" in Chile since the end of Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship due to the scale of damage to public infrastructure, the number of protesters, and the measures taken by the government to put down the rebellion.

On the 25th of October, over a million people took to the streets throughout Chile to protest against President Piñera, demanding his resignation. As of December 29th, 2019, 29 people have died, nearly 2,500 have been injured, and 2,840 have been arrested.

Human rights organizations have received several reports of violations conducted against protesters by security forces, including torture, sexual abuse and sexual assault.

Chile: what was the October Rebellion, and what will come of it? We need a working-class Marxist tendency!

Hi everybody! I got a new earring today that I really like, and just watched Pearl with one of my partners friends (who is quickly becoming my friend too! yay!). Pearl was decent for a slasher flick, just ok for an A24 movie (I generally like them, but have only seen a handful really), but HOLY FUCKING SHIT MIA GOTH IS SO GOOD! Incredible performance, and her monolog near the end had both of us going "it me" to certain lines in it.

Snuggling with the pups now, making vegan ravioli for dinner when my partner gets home later, waiting on some charcoal to arrive to smoke some cheese + vegan sausage tomorrow, and am currently wondering how my work is gonna take it when I roll up to our big company trip wearing obvious commie symbols. I do not own "nice" clothes and will cover my band shirts with a flannel while we're all together, but goddamnit im wearing my red star hat and battle vest with a sailor moon hamsick over the heart after the 8 hour day.

Gonna go take a bath and read more Parenti now :comfy:
