On this day in 2019, protests and riots began throughout Chile in response to a raise in the Santiago Metro's subway fare, the increased cost of living, privatization and inequality prevalent in the country.

The protests have been called the "worst civil unrest" in Chile since the end of Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship due to the scale of damage to public infrastructure, the number of protesters, and the measures taken by the government to put down the rebellion.

On the 25th of October, over a million people took to the streets throughout Chile to protest against President Piñera, demanding his resignation. As of December 29th, 2019, 29 people have died, nearly 2,500 have been injured, and 2,840 have been arrested.

Human rights organizations have received several reports of violations conducted against protesters by security forces, including torture, sexual abuse and sexual assault.

Chile: what was the October Rebellion, and what will come of it? We need a working-class Marxist tendency!

Over 24 hours without smoking now. It's hard man, real hard, I want one so badly. I'm hoping as time goes on the urge to want to smoke starts to dissipate some. Hopefully now I can start to afford food and stock up since I'm not blowing though close to $40 bucks every week on cigs.

Supposedly, your nicotinoid levels reset to baseline after ~72 hours of cessastion, so the first 3 days are the hardest.

It gets easier long term too. Smoking has caused your brain to grow additional receptors over time to compensate for the flood of nicotine drowning out other nicotinoids your body uses, but over time those will also wither away over several years.

I am lame and am good at quitting (I've done it a dozen times) but I hope you are strong and pull it through.

From my experience the first 3-ish days are the hardest, then after that you gotta focus on avoiding or appeasing triggers for about two weeks before the devil's off your shoulder. obviously not a hard rule, but I def think if you can make it through the first few days you can make it through the rest.
