    I don't know anything about the app so I don't know how far it gets you, but you should be reading and listening to native sources as soon as possible. It kind of depends on what you want to do for studying, like if you want to make flash cards with Anki or whatever, but the best thing is absolutely to start reading books or short stories or news or the internet in general, and watching shows or movies or YouTube. Finding stuff with Chinese subtitles shouldn't be too hard, especially if you are willing to pirate.

      Duolingo is terrible for Chinese. HelloChinese is much better for basics. It has videos of native speakers, writing exercises, better speaking exercises, options to switch between hanzi and pinyin, no stupid cartoon voices. Much better app, even if you only use the free version.

      OP are you on HelloTalk? Bilingual chatting with Chinese people is a lot of fun.
