Cool as fuck
I mean it seems obvious, but how much did people know about smoking and its danger back then?
I dont exactly think this is supposed to be anti smoking. According to the wikipedia page skeletons were common anatomy studies during his time.
Im gonna go ahead and assume that Van Gogh thought it would be a cool as fuck picture. And he was right.
I love it either way. I just like thinking that on some level we knew smoking was dangerous. I just want to see how far the rabbit hole goes. :pepe-silvia:
There's probably an instinctual inclination to avoid inhaling smoke that's only been overcome on the surface by thousands of years of cultural destigmatizing. Deep down I think most people know that piping hot ashes directly into your lungs is probably not great.
Otoh humans seem to love sitting in dark unventilated rooms with big ol hearthfires in the center filling the air with a shit ton of smoke so idk
Yeah. There were the notions of humors and miasmas during the time of Socrates. But they also had oracles inhale volcanic fumes. So :shrug-outta-hecks: I'm going to take it as a human urge to do whippets.
Seen this thing a million times. Never knew the title and artist til today.
While I should have clocked it as a Van Gogh, the cigarettes and death association made me think it was a more modern piece by soneone who's just a real big fan.
Hell yeah, love this one. Have had this as a poster for a couple years
