I'm mainly looking for stuff like what to expect, how to raise a child, etc., but I'm open to other suggestions too. It doesn't have to be explicitly communist/leftist (although that would be nice lol), but at least stuff that is aligned with similar values.

I've seen Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn, and The Will to Change by bell hooks recommended on leftist parts of :reddit-logo:, and I've heard that Pedagogy of the Oppressed has some useful ideas in it too

I found behavioral stuff to be hit or miss.

But we got a "first year" development book that runs through the babies first year and I felt better after reading through that. I didn't grow up around many infants.

Learn infant CPR I'm sure there are good YouTube videos for that. None come to mind unfortunately.

Makes sense, I try to steer away from stuff that's too prescriptive anyway. That does sound useful, I'll have to look into one. I have a big family, so I was around babies and young children a lot, but I don't want to necessarily go off of what my parents did lol.

That's actually a really good point. I'm already CPR certified, but I'll definitely go back through the material for infants. In fact, here's a link to the relevant sections of the course material for anyone who wants them:

      Infant

      Child (1 year+)

Tbh it took me until just now to realize that this is the title of a book, and not just a broad suggestion. :tito-laugh: I'll add it to my list, thanks!

Any of Armin Brott's books are very good. It's mostly just straightforward and practical advice. I liked them because nearly every other book geared towards fathers assumes you are some incompetent sitcom dad and try to explain things to you like you're 14.

Given how huge of a topic parenting is, there's a surprising dearth of good podcasts on it IMO.

I'll check him out, thanks! Yeah I've seen individual episodes about parenting, but not whole podcasts unfortunately
