Like you broke in to a house and then kill everyone inside, but if you kill the woman who pulls the knife too early you get penalized because you didn't give her the time to fully realize that her loved one was just slaughtered in front of her, all her friends are dead, and she has only seconds to protect herself from the same fate. You've got to let that all kick in before you kill her for maximum adrenochrome production in the brain stem.
