"I can't install the unofficial patch with minimal hassle unless I add the file frameworks and content from the .esm files" jotaro-walk

So after going from "this writing sucks" to "I would die for Walton Goggins so he can turn me into cracker jerky so he can stop Kyle McLachlan from becoming the capitalist Kwisatz Haderach" watching the Fallout series, I wanted to give Fallout 4 another shot, but to mod it so that it's good. The DLC is on sale for ten bucks. I'm going to install the Horizon gameplay overhaul and the unofficial patch and little quality of life things, and was wondering if there was a Project Nevada-style overhaul as well, and some equivalent of EVE that adds fancy new pew-pew lasers and plasma that don't look like chlamydic discharge

Is there any other Fallout 4 mods that make it not suck complete ass? I'm going to assume someone made a mod that removes the main character's voice acting entirely. I hope to god there is.

I have a 100+ mod list that's a few years old that looked promising but my game crashed as soon as I left the intro area and I couldn't be fucked to figure out what mod was causing it by that point.

if you're doing hardcore mode--which is recommended--it is also recommended that you get an override for the survival mode's save limits. the game simply isn't stable enough to risk losing progress cause the damn game crashed

There's a whole Communism mod that turns the horribly colonial named "Minutemen" into Communists, they have outfits from different Communist countries, posters, even a mod that plays Communist songs, and their flag is turned into the hammer and sickle (or other Communist/SSR flags!).

I also got a mod that turned the entirety of the town of Goodneighbor into a communist town, they even have a statue of Lenin!

The Sim Settlements mod is pretty good too, the only issue is that you can't really use it to its fullest cause of the way the shitty game engine runs, you can't build settlements in certain places because of script bloat, which kinda defeats the entire purpose.

Guess it depends on what exactly you're looking for, but those are the ones I use.

P.S. apparently a Japanese player learned how to 3D model and everything just to turn the female protagonist into an anime girl and it actually looks really fucking good so I also decided to download a mod that turned all the female characters in the game into anime girls lol, the men all look the same tho lol. I can't really play without it now 😆

I remember two things from fallout that annoyed me outside of the standard stuff:

Had to leave one villager at every settlement. I wanted to consolidate everyone into one more easily defended community.

The placeable transistor things did not work very well.

This comment reminded me of that. Idk

Yeah they horribly bungled the settlement system, which of course because of the engine being the way that it is, you can't exactly fix that, even with a good computer.

Bethesda just sucks at making games I guess

I started with making the main character a silent protagonist and it improves things immensely

have modders also fixed the story and setting? or at least removed the skeleton and added walls or something to that blown out diner somebody is supposedly living in?

With all the complaining I hear about these Bethesda games needing to be modded out the ass, surprised anyone plays them.

because the REAL fun part of Bethesda RPGs is daydreaming about doing a new modded run, then, spending 5 hours creating the perfect modlist to start the new playthrough only to immediately lose all interest the moment the game loads and you realize it crashes everytime you jump for some reason you're too tired to actually understand

Usually takes me a week to read through descriptions and forums, making sure there aren't any incompatibilities and it does what I want.

be careful with the unofficial fan patch since it seems to actually break a bunch of things in the game (at least it did for me), specifically regarding Cell loading, dissapearing trees and interiors, and just generally giving me more fatal crashes in general than my mod list ever gave me.

and regarding mod reccs, is there anything you're specifically looking for? QoL, revamped settlement system, change of aesthetics?

from the top of my head i can reccomend Sim Settlements 2 and its subsequent chapters, since its a pretty neat mod that not only revamps the settlement building mechanics, but also adds an entirely new story mode with a lot of custom-made assets and items

FROST was pretty fun imo. Hard as all hell though.

From what I remember, isn't FROST basically the FO4 answer to Fallout Dust? "Brutal, unforgiving, and bleak as all getout"?

The best way to play FO4 is installing new Vegas (fourth one technically)

You're never going to be able to mod Fallout 4 into a good RPG since you can't mod out the godawful writing, but you could probably turn it into a halfway decent lootshooter/survival game wearing a cheap fallout skin. I'd just not bother installing individual mods and just install some modpack using Wabbajack.
