I highly recommend this episode of Why Theory. It's hosted by professor Todd McGowan & Ryan Engley, and their podcast "brings Continental philosophy and psychoanalytic theory together to examine contemporary phenomena."
This episode goes into the concept of political enjoyment (they explain what that means dw). "Political enjoyment Right & Left" is also the title of McGowan's new book. They discuss how right wing enjoyment works, how and why transphobia (and racism, and etc...) works for them, and why the liberal response to it is incorrect (and why liberals have that response in the first place). It's great and accessible psychoanalytic philosophy and this episode is politically very significant (where most of their other eps are pure theory).
Truly, if you feel like you should be reading theory but can't get to doing so, listen to this 1.5 hour podcast. It's changed how I think about the interrelation of politics and culture.
also I'm a little gay for them
McGowan is a professor with a great voice and Engley sounds like an excited puppy.
:zizek-joy: "Beautifully said Ryan"
:bottom-speak: "thank you" :crush:
Thanks for the recommendation.
