One may dye their hair green and wear their grandma’s coat all they want. Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would critique capital end up reinforcing it instead…

It hits even harder coming from the literal personification of "liberal democracy is the worst system we have, except for all the others" since she so solidly lays out the entire history of the world and lays out just how fucked up everything is, but then turns around and says that we can't do anything to change it and anyone who tries is an idiot, despite her literally being

disco Elysium spoilers, brief mention of SA event in the story

A board member of the company that's sent in a paramilitary group of drugged up mass murdering rapist super soldiers to strikebreak the local dockworkers union, and if you ask her to try and deescalate things she literally just refuses because it would hurt Wild Pines's bottom line and then sails away to avoid being caught in the crossfire when things go down

She's such an amazing character because she's just so completely mask off (but not even like some hard-line Zionist dem screeching for the blood of Palestinians or something; she'll just pleasantly tell you how horrific things are but then just be like 'and that's just the way things have to be') but she's so friendly about it at the same time, she's the best example of the constant contradictory themes in the game imo.

Doesn't this game make fun of the freedom and democracy rhetoric. I think gamers are incapable of comprehending satire. Maybe the game just ends up normalising war crimes.

Yes it's very corny and over the top, moreso than even Starship Troopers which it gets compared to a lot. The military embracing it anyway reminds me of something Zizek said about the new fascism embracing irony.

Honestly I think most people get it because this is even more on the nose than starship troopers and the gameplay effectively reinforces the message

I saw someone calling China "Managed Democracy" today. They are absolutely just applying every negative thing in it to the things they don't like.

They're completely oblivious to the fact that their rabid China rhetoric is literally the thing being ridiculed when it comes to the bots. They are entirely oblivious to the fact they are the subject of the satire.

They only see it at the most surface level interpretation possible of "fascism bad" and do not apply it to anything in the real world appropriately. I strongly disagree that they "get it", this is a line that rightists use to kill conversation about people being oblivious to it, the goal of killing that conversation is to keep interpretations and understanding of it at the "fascism bad" surface level.

Helldivers are absurdly racist to anyone they perceive to be Chinese.

I remember seeing some awesome Chinese cosplayers being posted in the subreddit and the comments were full of "do they not get the irony???"

The subreddit does not in fact get the game, no matter how much they claim they definitely do and that is why there is no reason to talk about politics.

In almost all cases "no politics" is a tool of the right to prevent spread of awareness or greater understanding. The "no politics" approach to everything is about reducing or at least preventing the spread of consciousness.

Satire doesn't work on fascists they'll just embrace it as a celebration of their ideas.

Funny enough, liberals often don't get satire of fascists either. Hmm. Interesting.

Not at all surprising, it's just like chuds liking starship troopers. The game should force you to read sections of Das Kapital during loading screens.

80s style copy protection. you have to look up page 231 of das kapital and type in what it says, etc

Fascists do understand parody, contrary to kneejerk reactions. They simply agree with the parody, such that what would seem ridiculous to the average person becomes "based" to the fash.
