Wiby is a search engine for older style pages, lightweight and based on a subject of interest. Building a web more reminiscent of the early internet.

i spent around 15 minutes fucking around on here, the surprise me button is really fun.

i found:

  • a deranged (i mean that positively) 90s lefty guy who has an article about running a pirate radio station in Kentucky

  • a long-haired 90s linux guy who worked on the picture of the black hole and is also into medieval LARPing

  • a site dedicated to the flight mechanics of ornithopters

i don't know any of the people behind these sites personally, but I feel way more of a personal connection to them than I do looking at regular social media posts. i'm too young to have used the early web, but i feel a strange nostalgia for it. it's much more "homemade" than today's antiseptic social media sites. if i were more creatively inclined i might try emailing some of the people behind these sites and write about it, i think that would be fun.
