basically I am trying to break my reddit habit by force. ideally I'd be able to install something or configure my network in such a way that any time I go to reddit.com it prompts me for a password. I'll just make the password impossible to remember and not write it down, effectively blocking myself from reddit. is this doable?

Engineering barriers like that has been ineffective to me because I like to dismantle them, like that Frog & Toad story where they keep escalating their strategies to prevent themselves from eating all the cookies until they have to give up, realize they'll never defeat their own ids, and give the cookies to the birds. The lesson here is that the only way to break the habit is to physically destroy reddit's servers.

Failing that, I've found it effective to do a shorter challenge, like a month of no reddit. Once you break the daily cycle you can see that you weren't really missing anything and it becomes easier to just replace the habit in question with something else.

ironic username, but yeah there are definitely browser extensions for this. I found what works for me is to delete my accounts, then I can't engage with anything and I just see boring front page bs and stop visiting the site.

Could you set up like an adguard or something that just blocks the reddit domain? Idk or like a pi-hole thing
