Little late, but actually made me belly laugh and not just blow through my nose.

I really want to get to the level where I can start to play around with arranging and improvising like this: not even with that technical prowess, necessarily, but just having the fluency on the instrument as well as breadth of theory and comfort with different styles to be able to have fun like that.

A series of videos along the same lines which I found entrancing is Nahre Sol's Autumn Leaves videos where she plays that jazz standards in the style of a bunch of different composers:

I really appreciate how she adds all these little notes that show how she quantitatively and qualitatively captures the feeling of each composer's works.

My first thought was that the reason I could never improvise is that I would just memorize a good one and play it over and over.

That second one is sick it would fit right in as the background music to a metroidvania boss battle.

I was thinking of a stepped up momodora battle, given the "hyper mode" treatment. For whatever reason this battle in Reverie came to mind: https://youtu.be/bUKIRDW3djw

It's a deeply depressing world which is odd with this music style but at the same time this doesn't sound happy and upbeat. Speed up and step it up a notch in threat and number of incoming attacks and you've got the right tone for a hyped up "you haven't even seen my final form" for the battle.

With that said, you're killing someone that's just like you are in this scene of the game so it being such a bitter sweet moment that just comes and goes is also very fitting rather than making it an epic multi-stage boss.
