The kinetic energy in one of those rounds is ridiculous. Even after the frontal armour of German tanks got too thick for these to be useful, they were still effective against the thinner side and roof armour, and could still damage tracks. Even today I'm sure some are floating around popping IFVs in Ukraine.
For years I thought these things were a gimmick until I read about how many Panzer drivers lost their heads to one of these guys.
