People make fun of a video of someone’s toddler only eating the very tippy-tops of strawberries. They recommend a healthy dose of beatings.

The internet really is exactly the same in every language, isn't it.

    Presented without comment:

A man who had illegally emigrated to America in 2017 is posting to his Wechat wall that he wishes to return to China because he has bad health, his bad health is causing him to have trouble supporting himself in America, and he misses his family and children. He used to pursue freedom and democracy, but now he understands that only Chinese society is best suited for Chinese people. He apologises for his ignorance and arrogance, and wants to turn himself in for a second chance to contribute what he can to China.

i have always seen "doomscroll" in the internet context as a compound word so when I saw the title of this thread my brain immediately thought this was gonna be about a literal scroll from ancient chinese history that talks about eschatology or something. :blob-no-thoughts:

Does anyone have any good or reliable sources on what actually happened? It's a terrible failure of local government if true, but there seems to be a lot of sensationalism in that post and the only linked sources are the video and the nyt (dammit)
