  • i remember reading that orcas have cultural fads. it was fashionable in some orca communities to swim around with a dead fish hat for a while. i would consider that art adjacent https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/killer-whale-orca-trends

...a female [orca] in the Pacific Northwest’s Puget Sound was spotted wearing a dead salmon draped over her nose. The fad didn’t just spread within the trendsetter’s pod (her maternal family group). Over the next six weeks, individuals within all three pods in the area—collectively known as the Southern Residents—were observed sporting veils of decaying salmon. Then, just as suddenly as it began, the fish went out of fashion. More than 30 years later, researchers still aren’t sure why it caught on in the first place.

lori lightfoot dispatching chicago's finest to go after the entirely made up bus full of antifa that was supposedly en route from indiana during the 2020 protests was pretty funny

i mean, he could. who would he lose to? trump, who has spent every moment of the last three years whining about losing last time? trump has lost his juice, but more important, he's lost his novelty - voters don't see him as an outsider who could potentially "shake things up" anymore. desantis, whose flop sweat stench grows stronger by the day? all biden would have to do to win against him is air that clip of him doing a soy face and bobbling his head in a weird way during his japan trip and he'd put up reagan '84 numbers against him. assuming that 1. biden actually lives that long and 2. we don't get a new pandemic or equally catastrophic event (neither of which are guarantees), it seems like biden winning again is a pretty safe bet, at least right now.

  • watched some of the clip of steven crowder talking about how his wife left him. incredibly bizarre and more than a little bit worrying, what with the gun on the table, but i must say, hats off to tim heidecker, on the rare occasion that i watch one of these right wing pundits i am always reminded of what a good job he does in On Cinema. if he wrote and acted that scene out it would have been 100% the same. now all crowder needs to do is find the guidance of a good doctor, i think that some unlicensed acupuncture could help him with his various ailments

  • every day for the last 6 months or so i look at the news and hear some shit like "mississippi makes it illegal for libraries to stock more than 100 books" or "montana residents now legally required to salute all police officers they see in public". in fact it was hard to come up with those examples as jokes because all of the things that i was initially going to say were actually true. i imagine it's because all of the chud state legislators know now after Dobbs that it's open season, they can do anything they want and don't have to worry about getting pushback from the judiciary at pretty much any step. fuck this place!

  • it's pretty remarkable how bad the overall vibes have gotten in this country in just the last few months. there's been highs and lows in the last few years, though the general trend has definitely been downward, but even just compared to last year it's felt like everyone is just pissed off and tired with everyone else lately. maybe i've just been more depressed than usual but i don't know, it feels widespread, in the air somehow
