It's not there for safety, it's there so Amazon can give continue giving drivers unrealistic productivity/efficiency requirements without being vulnerable to lawsuits alleging those requirements encourage unsafe driving.
Yeah they don't give a fuck about driver safety they only care about making more money. If they could force them to drive for 24 hours and calculate the losses in potential accidents, they would. It's only the law stopping them doing that.
