serfs should never leave the fief of their lords.

much effort has been put into creating a system where the serf struggling to survive generates value for the lord. if they could just leave, then peasants would simply follow their basest desires to "not die from a preventable plague" or "eat unpoisoned food" and lords would have their fortunes degraded having to lure peasants from elsewhere. further still, who would serve in the armies of our lords if serfs could just leave?

while the rich and powerful will continue to be permitted to do as they like, our beautiful borders serve to control the movement of our most valuable commodity: commoners. as our god hath commanded through our great and noble king.
