Off The Grid is an upcoming cyberpunk Battle Royale multiplayer shooter game from Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) and Script Writer Richard K. Morgan (Altered Carbon, Crysis).
Set on a dystopian tropical island, 150 players fight each other in PvP skirmishes, as well as PvE storyline missions using the same map inhabited by other players in real-time. In the game, you shape the story and the gameplay.
He's been doing his own thing for a bit, so I think making a game is kind of just more experimentation on his part. His shorts on YouTube are interesting, but do leave me wanting something more substantial from him. I agree, Michael Rooker would have been a perfect fit for the mercenary; current VA was doing the voice so raspy and deep it made me involuntarily clear my own throat.
I’d love a full length film version of his Vietnam short about the river god.
Hell yeah, that short was so good!; the other one about the mind-controlling aliens was really cool too.
Honestly, he’s the sort of director I say “throw money at”. Sure, Chappie was absolutely shit, but I choose to believe that was the fault of the suits.
Yeah, judging by the short he and his team have some good concepts. Hopefully he gets a bit more work on these larger kinds of projects and can find some lazy producers who don't care to interfere too much.
