Honestly, this sort of hangup doesn't seem to take that much to form. Nofap ideology is often enough, even when it isn't being delivered Catholically

People in those spaces - Tradcath, secular Nofap, Evangelical, etc - have to have an essentialistic outlook on people or else their whole deal just doesn't work. The essence they assign to people is "Bad", and this typically comes with an unlimited amount of psyche-fuckup, including sex being viewed as something "animalistic" and therefore diametrically opposed to their "humanity"
