Richard Oakes, born on this day in 1942, was a Mohawk indigenous activist and leader within the Red Power movement, playing a prominent role in the 19-month occupation of Alcatraz Island from 1969 - 1971.
Oakes promoted Native American studies in university curricula and is credited for helping to change U.S. federal government "Termination" policies (policies regarding assimilation of indigenous people into the culture of the colonizer) of Native American peoples and culture.
In 1969, Oakes led a 19-month occupation of Alcatraz Island with LaNada Means, approximately 50 California State University students, and 37 others. On January 5th, 1970, Oakes' 12-year-old daughter, Yvonne, fell to her death from concrete steps. After her funeral, Oakes left the island.
In 1972, Oakes was shot and killed in Sonoma, California, by Michael Morgan, a YMCA camp manager. Allegedly, Oakes violently confronted Morgan, and Morgan responded by drawing a handgun and fatally shooting Oakes.
Oakes was unarmed when he was shot. Morgan claimed he acted in self-defense, and was acquitted on charges of voluntary manslaughter.
"We do not fear your threat to charge us with crimes on our land. We and all other oppressed peoples would welcome spectacle of proof before the world of your title by genocide. Nevertheless, we seek peace."
Richard Oakes

Skyrim VR update.
I gave it a few days and came back to try again. Fresh install of everything, .deb version of Steam, SteamVR set to the previous version, Mod Organizer 2 installed the first time without a problem, and the base game running without issues. Dunno what's up with the most recent version of SteamVR but it appears to have broken Valve Index controller emulation, which is why I'm using the previous. Dunno what's up with the flatpack version of Steam but running the previous version of SteamVR on it made it extremely unstable despite that same version working fine a couple of weeks ago. Now I gotta download mods again - this particular step has never been the culprit for breaking everything, but you never know!
Currently on attempt like... 4 to get CP2077 running. I don't even want to play the game, this is about revenge. I wish you luck in your modding, comrade.
I wish I had backed up my mod list from when it was working a few weeks ago. Maybe this time I'll remember to do that when I get it working - in fact I should make it a point to back up literally everything if it works, the wineprefix, the mod organizer install, all the mod zip files... never know when Steam will release another SteamVR update that breaks it all unexpectedly.
I feel that. Once you've got something stable your config becomes the most precious thing. You've got me thinking i should write a disc image of successful configs, like the whole thing - game file, app data, mod files, to an external drive and put it in my safety deposit box in the vault of a malta casino run by the contemporary knights templar.
