This is largely how fascism works. Just take the talking points of the left and blame the people you hate. You see this with Mussolini too (Of course, he was a communist when he was young.). Fascism is purly taking popular leftist notions and combining it with whatever existing brain worms works best. They then use this cudgel to commit genocide and beat down the working class.
He also considered himself a centrist. Wonder how come the people who take him for his word at face value when he calls himself a socialist don’t talk about this

Try reading Mein Kampf if you want and if you hate yourself. It reads exactly like a modern screed against wokeness. Hitler complains about free speech on college campuses, about how minorities like Jews have special treatment, about how times have changed and you can't be a proud German anymore. He then very clearly says he should be in charge of Germany so he can invade the USSR and destroy Marxism.
When I first read it I felt like I fell into a time vortex or something. It's eerie. You could replace Marxists/Bolshevik with Woke/SJW and it would read the same.

uh...the Nazis weren't exactly pro-free speech. They were quite firmly anti-gun, too.
The Nazis were fascist slime who would say anything because they had no coherent beliefs other than genocide. The gun control thing is a myth by the way. Gun ownership among white Germans increased after 1933. They were against Jews and leftists possessing guns.
The right'll bang together enough brain cells to try and co-opt literally any set of ideas if you give 'em time.
Welll that is the entire premise of Fascism: take people's legitimate complaints about capitalism and redirect them at a scapegoat minority group.
