Good things (or at least not completely terrible) things can still happen?

Things like bans on abortion, books, and trans care are broadly unpopular. Not because US voters have any ideology, just because they feel wrong. There will be localities and whole states where those remain the law of the land for mostly gerrymandering reasons, but also because of christian fascists who can afford to, relocating to eg Florida or the closest place like it.

Same shit happened in the 90s more or less, and it does seem like each time it comes around it has the support of a slightly smaller but much, much more rabid base with less respect for "norms". The escalating anti-democratic actions of the GOP which enjoys near 100% support from that base, to my mind, virtually guarantees that the US is headed for something cataclysmic domestically. Who knows what will happen, but I would not trust "sensible" or especially petite bourgeoisie libs to do the right thing when the entirety of the ruling class decides it's time to pivot from the historically latent, systemically racist fascism to overt fascism.
