In an interview, Bass said she fears the accidental release of photographs of LAPD officers, recently provided by the department in response to a public records request, could accelerate the outflow. If the city fails to fix its recruitment and retention problems, the LAPD could easily fall below 9,000 officers in the coming months, Bass said.

Lol.

Just like in Chicago with the recent election of a supposed progressive candidate these are real opportunities to put into place a serious, clear-eyed step forward of defunding the police/refunding the public.

The RW is gonna foam at the mouth either way; fuck them. But if one of these mayors can begin to construct another world being possible, with a whole spate of fully funded social programs and infrastructure projects with the money currently being wasted on a bloated budget for a fascist police force there’s no way people are gonna be against it.

Let the thin-skinned, fear-laden babies cry all they want about phantom crime increases, etc. The rest of us want a decent world with less commodification and more public access.

She’s got a great opportunity here to do something good. As does Johnson in Chicago.
