It depends honestly. If it's one of those 510 thread battery+cart combination things it could have been the coil getting too hot or the airflow being off.

If it was a shatter pen with actual concentrates it happens to me when pocket lint or something else terrible sneaks in there.

Also weed vapes go really hot so it's not the smoke that's harsh but the temperature of the air. Ice in the mouth can help me
