We're going to be seeing a lot more of this going forward...

Just like fascists of old parroted leftist language, modern day fascists will and are doing the same.

I've heard one communist commentator say we should especially watch out for how American fascists will start talking about fighting the "settler colonialism" of climate refugees.

I know. It seems so possible considering how the far right have so thoroughly demonized refugees in the span of a decade.

Zionists already have aggressively tried to paint Arabs as colonizers (within Palestinian land) for forever. This isn't new.

It's a never ending arms race between the people using language to clarify things and build class consciousness, and the reactionaries deliberately misusing language and misapplying terms to rob that language of its purpose. nage

Not really big news imo, since the settler colonial entity of Isn'treal already has done this, the word "decolonisation" is at maximum co-optation so any serious person knows that they can't outright trust everyone who uses the word we know that unfortunately not everyone who uses the word is a real based decolonial which is a shame since anti-colonial struggles are the most important step towards world socialism which means we need to keep pushing our own semantics

Original reply I responded to prior to edit so I can leave all this up for teachable moment purposes:

Oh fuck off with that. Decolonization is a very important aspect of revolutionary movements in any colonized place like for example the United fucking states.

Just because it is being aggressively co-opted doesn't mean we stop using the word you coward. It means you push back harder and educate people. I am so tired of people ceding ground because of optics when you need to nut the fuck up and push back on that.

Pride has been co-opted so should we just stop talking about queer liberation? Come the fuck on dude.

Edit: restored this comment for review so this reply may no longer apply.

I'm sorry for expressing myself poorly. Could you consider unremoving my comment so I can edit it? I will strike or even erease the last paragraph to clear any ambiguity. I knew my wording wasn't great but I thought my intentions would still be transparent, however since it's apparently not the case.

To me, anti-colonial organisation carry the best hope humanity has for a revolution in the imperial core, since this entity is yet too colonialist to achieve class consciousness. This is how important this subject is to me. I fully support my local decolonial media and organisation.

okay it came off REALLY bad so my apologies for the friendly fire. Saying you "can't outright trust anyone who uses the word [decolonization]" was just super sus.

The take seems to be "Every attempted coup in Russia is actually an independence movement, but the actual independence movements in the Donbas are 'Russian seperatists' and Ukraine is right to shell them"

lol they do this to Russia too. if you oppose US empire they are going to hire mercenary academics to decorate US attacks as progressive support for some oppressed group.

we even know what happens when the US' "commitment" to these people is tested---rebel Kurds in Syria & Iraq get hung the fuck out to dry by the Yankkkees when they don't serve US ends anymore despite decades of US media talking up how US invasions were supporting and had the support of the Kurds. and now their neighbors don't like them because the US came 'on their behalf'
