What would you do there? For story reasons it would have to be something that has you visiting new places and talking to new people frequently. Adventurer and traveling merchant are common choices but that obviously wouldn't work here. Would there be gonzo journalists under communism?
I would be a traveling ecologist that would travel to different towns to educate people on how to properly live with their environment and appreciate their local fauna and flora.
Or I dunno, dog mover. Need a dog moved from town A to town B?
