    Fun fact: In the 90s, a woman won Olympic skeet shooting for the first time, so the Olympics banned women the following year and then made a separate category.

      On the one hand, it probably shows they have enough women interested to give two gendered medals in that sport.

      On the other, society needed a sport men could lose to women at, and the IOC fucked up

        I think they went from mixed -> men + women -> mixed + women?? It's confusing. Gender politics in professional sports is deeply unserious.

          Mixed + women is the reasonable way to go. You have a women’s league but if a woman wants to challenge men she can go for it. Basically just giving women multiple options.

      That was China's own Zhang Shan that got gold in '92.

      When they introduced the women's skeet shoot competition in '96, I think they also made the number of targets slightly smaller, so that you couldn't directly compare the results between men and women's groups.
