Loads of people. Most moderators are not great people in the first place (not ours though :stalin-approval:) and plenty more will jump at the opportunity for a small amount of internet power. The quality of moderation may tank for a while, but I doubt the admins care that much.
They can, but the issue is replacing all the mods who do free labor for the site. Who would sign up to replace them after all this?

yeah but it's liable to piss the userbase off and drive people away. like if this goes two weeks, I doubt reddit as a site will recover.
People pay huge sums of money for mod accounts.
