"Lowering Education Costs and Debt Act"
Consists of 5 bills:

  • "College Transparency Act (CTA)" - force colleges to tell potential students that degrees are worthless and they might as well jump into work
  • "Understanding the True Cost of College Act" - make colleges break down financial aid letters into more detail
  • "Informed Student Borrower Act" - add a checkbox for students that acknowleges they know what a loan is and how this will hang around their necks even through bankruptcy
  • 4th unnamed bill - cut repayment options from 10 to 2, and deny loans to students if the degree they seek leads to a career which makes less than a high school graduate
  • The last bill in the package aims to put pressure on graduate schools to lower costs

So 4 bills telling people to not go to college because they can't afford it, and outright denying students loans and repayment plans. So not actually “Lowering Education Costs and Debt” by making universities more affordable, but making sure people don't pay in the first place to keep them uneducated and more exploitable by capitalists.

Zero help for people with existing loans.
