I was really hoping they would take a tip from "Inglourious Basterds" and just kill Oswald Mosley even though it would be historically inaccurate to do so. Motherfucker did not deserve to make it to 1980 lmfao

my understanding is that the IRA had infighting back then between left and right irish nationalist elements but idk how much that is played up for the show

They don’t show any ideological infighting in the IRA. The only infighting depicted is that some IRA members sought to assassinate the pro-treaty guys who wanted to lay down their arms or there were spies among the ranks. During a meeting with Oswald, the main IRA villain just says that the IRA is socialist, but the leadership can easily turn it fascist if it makes meeting Oswald’s demands easier

They should’ve done an ahistorical route. I mean, the Peaky Blinders itself are pretty inaccurate anyway so might as well just go for it.

yeah exactly, the real gang that the show is named after was relatively minor and only existed for a few years after WW1

Speaking of WWI, it’s also funny how inconsistent they were with Tommy’s PTSD. They showed arthur in constant agony but then Tommy is just like “sucks innit.” I usually disagree that creators fail at criticizing popular prestige antiheroes, but Peaky Blinders really is just “wot if I’m a bad person, but the epic slowmo shots makes me cool again.”

I can’t really see anything beyond the surface level presentation compared to other popular sigma antiheroes with more nuance from Breaking Bad, Sopranos, American Psycho, etc.

yes. it is all very disappointing, especially in hindsight, when you're having the "fridge logic moments."

i'd like to think i'd write a better show but i'm old and tired and lazy. soviet-huff
